With the 58th pick in the SB Nation NFL writer's mock draft, the Houston Texans select California wide receiver Marvin Jones.

After Andre Johnson, the Texans have a solid veteran who may be losing a step (Kevin Walter), a guy who follows up a highlight play with three bad ones (Jacoby Jones), and no one else ready to develop. It's not a matter of if Gary Kubiak will take a wide receiver but when and how many. Since it's our call, Battle Red Blog takes Marvin Jones in round two.

Dan Kadar responds: Some contend that the Texans need to draft an offensive tackle early to replace Eric Winston on the right side. But in releasing Winston, the Texans coaching staff indicated their scheme is more important than the players in it. With that ideal in mind, the team can wait to fill the need there. So wide receiver is a good way to go. Don't forget that Johnson is already 30, and had injury issues last season. I somewhat question passing on a surehanded player like Mohamed Sanu, but Jones is more of a vertical receiver so it's a good scheme fit.
