2012 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick 60

The SB Nation two-round NFL mock draft continues along with each lead NFL team blogger making the pick for their team. We continue the second round with the Baltimore Ravens and pick No. 60.

With the 60th pick in the SB Nation NFL writer's mock draft, the Baltimore Ravens select Utah State outside linebacker Bobby Wagner.

Bruce Raffel, the site manager of Baltimore Beatdown checks in with his reasoning behind the pick and I respond after the jump. For the latest on the Ravens, make sure to check out BaltimoreBeatdown.com.

Bruce Raffel explains: The knock on Utah State’s Bobby Wagner is is smallish height (6’0", 241 lbs), but his body of work on the field speaks for itself. He is a four-year starter, two-year captain and three-time All-WAC Conference selection. A 40-yard dash in the 4.4-4.5 range with a 39.5" vertical leap proves this guy plays bigger than he actually measures. Any doubt whether he could play with the boys in the bigger conferences was dispelled when he was named the defensive Most Outstanding Player of the North team in the 2012 Senior Bowl with seven tackles, one for loss and an interception. Other than a bout with pneumonia which caused him to miss the Combine, Wagner has been injury-free in his collegiate career. The Ravens have been watching him closely, going to his pro day as well as bringing him to Baltimore for further review. With the loss of OLB Jarret Johnson to free agency and ILB Ray Lewis not getting any younger, this guy looks to be a fixture on the Ravens great defense for years to come.

Dan Kadar responds: Why is no one talking about Bobby Wagner? Because he missed the Combine, the key piece of the offseason hype process. The question with this pick is where he would play in Baltimore. He’s not much of a pass rusher and he’s not a bigger, rugged player. So it would be hard to see him replacing Jarrett Johnson on the outside. But Wagner could be that inside linebacker the Ravens have long been in search of to put next to Lewis. Wagner is a rangy player, so that would allow Lewis to remain more of a straight-ahead linebacker.
