Assaulting a police officer is high in the power rankings of things not to do leading up to the draft. It’s right up there with getting charged with drug possession and just above good old normal assault.
Punching Alshon Jeffery not enough; Alfonzo Dennard arrested in cop assault

According to the Omaha World-Herald, Nebraska cornerback Alfonzo Dennard was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer Saturday morning. According to the paper, Dennard was in a fight with another individual when police arrived. When they tried to intervene, Dennard allegedly pushed and punched an officer. The paper reports that four officers had to take Dennard into custody.
Dennard is expected to be in jail through the weekend and his bail will be set Monday.
This is not Dennard's experience throwing hands. He connected on two haymakers against the helmeted head of South Carolina wide receiver Alshon Jeffery in the Capital One Bowl to end his college career.
Obviously, this could have a negative impact on Dennard’s NFL Draft stock. He’s largely done himself no favors during the offseason process. At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4.55 40-yard dash, which isn’t good for a 5-foot-10, 205-pound cornerback. He also struggled at the Senior Bowl. Add on an arrest and you’ve got a player who could have been a second-round pick falling into fourth round or later.
