This year I wrote the player rankings and evaluations for the USA Today 2012 NFL Draft magazine. It’s on newsstands now and available online here. Leading up to the draft, I’ll be reprinting some of my quick reports here.
Malik Jackson 2012 NFL Draft quick report
Malik Jackson, Tennessee
Ht: 6’5, Wt: 284 pounds
Strengths: Jackson is a big, physical end who was lined up a defensive tackle at times. He comes with a lot of power off the line of scrimmage and is a good tackler. Good in pursuit. Since the offseason process began, Jackson has added weight (listed at 270 by Tennessee). Because of that, it’s likely he’s positioning himself to be a tackle or 3-4 end in the NFL.
Weaknesses: In pass rush situations, Jackson comes off the line too high. Doesn’t have the power to set the edge. Doesn’t have good counter moves as a blitzer and never became the sack artist some expected. Will sometimes have awareness issues.
