This year I wrote the player rankings and evaluations for the USA Today 2012 NFL Draft magazine. It’s on newsstands now and available online here. Leading up to the draft, I’ll be reprinting some of my quick reports here.
Markelle Martin 2012 NFL Draft quick report

Markelle Martin, Oklahoma State
Ht: 6'1, Wt: 198 pounds
Strengths: With a combination of athleticism and speed, Martin is one of the better pure coverage safeties in the draft this year. He can cover a lot of ground in a hurry and gets a good break on the ball in the air. Although he’s a little light, Martin closes with big hits regularly.
Weaknesses: Unrefined in man coverage. Plays too high when asked to backpedal from the line of scrimmage. Average hands and won’t make a lot of interceptions. Not a powerful tackler and will sometimes need help taking the ball carrier down. Doesn’t have the best instincts, which will improve with more reps.
