Antonio Allen 2012 NFL Draft quick report

Strengths: Where Allen is best utilized is in the run game. He played the spur position at South Carolina, a hybrid safety/linebacker (known as the “spur”). Is strong through contact and rarely misses tackles. He can lay a hit, but is still fundamentally sound as a tackler. Looked much more comfortable in coverage situations in 2011. Displayed good instincts in zone. A leader on the talent-packed South Carolina defense. Has lined up all over the field. Can play on special teams.
Weaknesses: Doesn’t always take proper angles to the ball carrier, especially when he has to work through the trash near the line of scrimmage. Doesn’t have the later movement needed to be used in man situations. Somewhat stiff in the hips. Change of direction skill leaves a little to be desired. Average hands. Struggled with minor injuries throughout his career.
Combine quotable (On playing the spur): That’s why they had me at that spur position. Just coming off the edge, attacking quarterbacks, making plays, causing fumbles, things like that. Playing man up, just on the slot receiver. Just things in that category.
