The Kansas City Chiefs are a team on the verge of becoming favorites in the AFC West. They get Jamaal Charles, Tony Moeaki and Eric Berry back from injury. They signed right tackle Eric Winston and running back Peyton Hillis. They are are a team with few holes.
Kansas City Chiefs select Dontari Poe No. 11 in 2012 NFL Draft
Because of that, it behooved them to take a "safe" pick. They did just the opposite taking Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe. This is a pick I expected most of the offseason until recently. Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel loves size up front. In Cleveland, one of his favorite players was Ted Washington. From a size standpoint Poe is similar. If anyone can turn him into a true nose tackle, it's Crennel.
Quick scouting notes: It’s hard to dislike Poe’s size and natural athleticism for such a big player. He’s not just a guy who plays to occupy space and blockers. When Poe gets moving, he’s light on his feet and isn’t necessarily a fat 350 pounds.
