Arizona Cardinals select Michael Floyd No. 13 in 2012 NFL Draft

One of the biggest crapshoots in the 2012 NFL Draft was trying to guess what the Arizona Cardinals would do with the No. 13 pick. The choices were expected to be an offensive tackle like Riley Reiff or a pass rusher like Melvin Ingram. But when your superstar, Larry Fitzgerald, speaks Arizona has to listen.

Fitzgerald told the team he wanted them to draft Floyd and they’ve listened. Since Anquan Boldin left Arizona, the Cardinals struggled to find a legitimate No. 2 receiver. It may seem like a luxury pick for the Cardinals to draft a second option, but Floyd is a good one. He’s a big body receiver who can get yards after the catch. Floyd is the first Notre Dame wide receiver taken in the first round since Tim Brown.

Now the Cardinals have to hope a pass rusher slips into the second round. Relying on unknowns O’Brien Schofield and Sam Acho could hurt them severely.

Quick scouting notes: Really knows how to use his frame and strength to his advantage getting open and beating the jam. Quick feet. Hard to take down after the catch and doesn’t mind getting hit. Will make spectacular catches away from his frame. Produced despite poor quarterback play.
