San Diego Chargers select Melvin Ingram No. 18 in 2012 NFL Draft

A.J. Smith consistently gets tremendous value in his draft picks. In what has been a wild first round, talent is falling down the board, and Ingram is one of the steals of the first round. He can play all over the front seven and will be an instant upgrade to San Diego's pass rush.
Ingram was projected by plenty to be a top ten selection and is arguably the best pass rusher in the draft. One concern is Ingram’s short arms, but he will be a welcome addition to an underwhelming group of Charger linebackers.
Mel Kiper has already dubbed this the best pick of the first round, for what it’s worth. San Diego certainly got excellent value with this selection, which has become a trend in recent years.
