The Chicago Bears are at something were at a crossroads in the first round. Most expected a wide receiver or a pass rusher. But no one expected it to be a pass rusher like Boise State's Shea McClellin.

A late-riser in the draft, McClellin is athletic enough to get after the passer but his production didn't meet his skills. He played in a rotation at Boise State and was sometimes overshadowed by Tyrone Crawford. McClellin is versatile, though, and gives head coach Lovie Smith a player who can move all around the field.

The other plus is that this will ease the pressure off Julius Peppers. It’s just odd to see McClellin go before guys like Whitney Mercilus, Courtney Upshaw and even Nick Perry.

Quick scouting notes: McClellin is a solid pass rusher with speed on the outside. He’s fast off the line of scrimmage and keeps low around the corner. High motor player. Has played from a two- and three-point stance.
