Nitpicking is all the rage this time of year. With a lull between workouts and the NFl Draft at the end of the month, Janoris Jenkins has been put under the microscope as much as any player in his draft class. That's what happens when you have a history that includes multiple marijuana arrest, a dismissal from a college football team and four children with three different mothers.
2012 NFL Draft: Detroit Lions unlikely to take Janoris Jenkins
A first round talent, Jenkins has a chance to fall to the second day. In addition to the off the field concerns Jenkins presents, the 2012 NFL Draft is incredibly deep at cornerback. Teams may elect to wait until the second round for a safer option than the former Florida and North Alabama defensive back.
Even the Detroit Lions, who have a pressing need at cornerback, are unlikely to draft Jenkins, according to the Detroit Free Press. Nick Fairley and Mikel Leshoure, both 2011 draft choices of the Lions, were recently arrested in marijuana related incidents, which could affect Detroit's draft plans. The Lions did visit with Alabama cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick, who was arrested for marijuana possession as well, but the charges were dropped. There's no doubt that Kirkpatrick carries much less baggage than Jenkins does.
Jenkins, who recently changed agents, hasn’t won too many people over in the pre-draft process. He’s talented enough to be selected in the first round, but it is becoming increasingly more likely that the red flags surrounding him will be enough to push him out of the draft’s first night.
