2012 SB Nation NFL Mock Draft: Round 2, Pick 33

With the 33rd pick in the 2012 SB Nation NFL Writers Mock Draft, the St. Louis Rams select Michigan State defensive tackle Jerel Worthy.
Ryan Van Bibber from Turf Show Times breaks the choice down and I respond to it after the jump. For more on the Rams, make sure to check out TurfShowTimes.com.
Ryan Van Bibber explains: Gregg Williams is exiled, and nobody has a good idea of what exactly the Rams’ defense will look like in terms of scheme specifics. They signed Kendall Langford, and Worthy will be a good pairing in the middle of the front four. Some say Worthy will need pushing from his coaches to realize his full potential. The Rams finally have a coaching staff known for getting the most of their players.
Dan Kadar responds: After taking Trent Richardson in the first round, the obvious thought here would be a wide receiver. But there is a lot of second-round depth at receiver and the Rams have an extra pick this round from Washington. RVB is right that Worthy will have to be motivated. If Jeff Fisher can turn Albert Haynesworth into a superstar, he can get the flip to switch on Worthy. When his motor is high, Worthy is great. But too often, especially in 2011, he didn’t live up to his natural ability. Clemson’s Brandon Thompson may not be as gifted as Worthy, but he’d be a safer choice. So if defensive tackle is the way St. Louis goes, that’s what they’ll be considering.
