This Week In GIFs Results: ‘Rebuffed Buck Showalter’ Edges Competitors In Inaugural Contest
REBUFFED BUCK SHOWALTER.
The context: Mark Reynolds finally hit the first home run of the year. In accordance with tradition, his teammates in the dugout gave him the “silent treatment,” refusing to acknowledge him as he trotted off the field. Here, manager Buck Showalter says “p’shaw to all that,” and extends a gesture of congratulation. But Reynolds is too clever for that, and reciprocates a weird tradition that makes no sense at all.
The fist pump, man. I love it. This week’s field was a very tough one, but we have a deserving champion.
We had quite a discussion in the comments. Some of those in favor of Showalter:
The Chris Paul flop was subtle, but Buck played that non-high five well.
In much the same way people favored the raptor over the Michigan punter in [the 64-GIF tournament] because of the deflation at the end, I think it’s the fact that Showalter not only fists pumps but depresses his hand with imaginary pressure from the low-five that never came before the fist pump.
