The Philadelphia Eagles announced that they have signed running back LeSean McCoy to a five-year contract extension. The electric rusher was a Pro Bowler in 2011 and was set to become a free agent after this upcoming season. The new deal locks him up through 2017.

Albert Breer of NFL Network reports that the contract is worth $45 million over the five years, with $20.765 million in guaranteed money. McCoy is the second All-Pro running back to sign a deal this offseason, with Houston’s Arian Foster agreeing to terms on a five-year, $43.5 million deal in early March.

McCoy burst on the scene during his rookie season three years ago. He has passed the 1,000-yard mark in the past two seasons, rushing for 1,309 yards in 15 games last year. McCoy lead the NFL with 20 touchdowns in 2012, two more than New England’s Rob Gronkowski. The prolific season set him up for a big deal and the Eagles obliged with the extension.
