On May 18, 1980, Washington’s Mount St. Helens blew its top in one of the most well-known eruptions of the 20th century. The eruption deposited heaps of ash over an incredible area to the northeast of the mountain, and a couple hundred miles away, the Spokane Indians became perhaps the first and only North American major or minor league baseball team to have a home game ashed out by a volcano.
