“Balkin’” Bob Davidson has been suspended for a game by Major League Baseball, and Phillies manager Charlie Manuel has been suspended for a game so the umpires don’t feel all persecuted.
Charlie Manuel Suspended 1 Game For ... Something
Earlier on Friday, it was reported that umpire Bob Davidson was going to be suspended for a game because of his on-field actions during the May 15 game between the Phillies and Astros. Hooray! Oversight and discipline of a jerk umpire! Except, it couldn’t stop there. From an MLB press release:
Manuel used naughty words too, I guess. But he’s the manager. He’s supposed to. And if he says the wrong ones, he gets kicked out of the game. Which happened. So I’m not sure what he did that was so egregious that it merits a suspension where 99 percent of the ejections in baseball this year will not. The press release didn’t specify.
