Barkevious Mingo 2013 NFL Draft prospect notes

Barkevious Mingo | Defensive End/Outside Linebacker | 6-5, 240 pounds

First Word: Barkevious Mingo is another in a long line of talented LSU Tiger defenders that will make the jump to the National Football League. Along with Sam Montgomery, Mingo is a part of a lethal LSU pass-rushing tandem. Tiger defenders will be in the backfield all fall putting SEC quarterbacks in the turf. While Montgomery is more of a power player, Mingo will make big money someday for his speed. He turns the corner on a dime and has the closing speed to rack up the sacks.

• Quick off the snap. He has incredible burst and uses it effectively to get a jump on the offensive line.
• Speed, speed and more speed. Mingo is fast. Go back and watch the Arkansas game. You don't need to know Mingo's number to notice him flying around the field on defense.
• Creative in his pass rush. Saw him develop a spin move this season.
• His ability to track a play and defend from sideline to sideline is valuable to a defense.
• Mingo is extremely athletic, which will help him transition to 3-4 outside linebacker, his likely NFL position.

• Mingo is not the strongest player and was pushed a round a bit by some stronger tackles last season.
• I don't like seeing Mingo get upright in the running game. It makes me think he is not suited to play with his hand in the dirt.
• Instincts weren't always there last season. He seems to pin his ears back and go on most plays. Relies on his athleticism and talent to make plays. If he puts it all together, he will be dominant this season.
