2012 NFL Draft analysis: Seattle Seahawks

The immediate buzz following the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft was that the Seattle Seahawks made a huge mistake taking pass rusher Bruce Irvin 15th overall. But since then, we've learned that the New York Jets were probably going to snag him at No. 16 and that Irvin wouldn't have made it out of the first round. It's still a risky pick, but in hindsight the Seahawks able to trade back and still get a player they had highly rated. Now we'll just have to wait and see the production.
The Seahawks also turned heads with their next two picks, linebacker Bobby Wagner and quarterback Russell Wilson. Many believe both players would have been there a round later. Running back Robert Turbin in the fourth round was a good choice, however. He can spell and perhaps eventually replace Marshawn Lynch. The rest of the team's draft looks to be filled with depth additions. For a team like the Seahawks, though, that's not a bad thing.
Questionable selection: LB Bobby Wagner, Round 2, Pick 47
Wagner isn't a bad player. This isn't necessarily a bad choice, either. Where Seattle took him is questionable. The Seahawks traded back in the second round to add picks and in doing so missed out on linebacker Mychal Kendricks by one pick. Trading back is fun, but carries a risk.
Late-round steal: S Winston Guy, Round 6, Pick 181
At Kentucky, Guy played a hybrid safety/linebacker role. He’s extremely similar to current Seahawks strong safety Kam Chancellor. If Chancellor gets hurt or happens to struggle, Guy offers a seamless replacement where the Seahawks previously didn’t have one.
