2012 NFL Draft analysis: Tennessee Titans
General manager Ruston Weber and the Tennessee Titans' front office continue to build the team based on a best available player draft philosophy. Despite a drastic need on the interior of the offensive line, the Titans opted to draft wide receiver Kendall Wright with the No. 20 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, passing up on the most talented guard prospect in years, David DeCastro.
In fact, the team did not adress the interior of the offensive line the entire weekend, instead accumulating the best talent on the board with a bit of a focus on the defensive side of the ball. While they didn’t address one of their biggest needs, the Titans had an effective draft in many ways.
Questionable Pick: LB, Zach Brown, North Carolina, Round 2, pick 52
Zach Brown was one of the most athletic linebackers available in the 2012 NFL Draft. Despite that, he fell in the draft due to a lackluster senior season and a questionable work ethic. This is not a terrible pick by any means given Brown’s potential, but there is definitely a bit of risk involved with this second round pick.
Late-Round Steal: S, Markelle Martin, Oklahoma State, Round 6, pick 190
The Titans’ secondary lacked depth entering the 2012 NFL Draft. Lucky for them, need met value in the sixth round, as Oklahoma State safety Markelle Martin, who was considered a mid-round pick by some experts, fell to to them late in the draft. He is a talented player who will have a chance to develop into a starter for Tennessee down the road.
