After hitting his first career major league home run in the fourth inning, Washington Nationals ace Stephen Strasburg departed his team's 9-3 win against the Baltimore Orioles just an inning later with what Nats skipper Davey Johnson called bicep tightness. At his locker after the game, Strasburg downplayed the significance of the injury, saying he was just tired from throwing a bunch of pitches early. From USA Today:
Stephen Strasburg Leaves Game Early With ‘Arm Fatigue’, Denies It’s A Problem
“The bicep’s fine,” Strasburg said. “I think it was (about) throwing a lot of pitches early. I got a little tired. It got a little tight. But that’s nothing different than any other outing. It’s just part of coming back from Tommy John -- building up the innings, getting the stamina and everything. It’s just something I’ve got to be smart about.”
Apparently the injury didn’t just flare up when Strasburg was removed. SB Nation’s Nationals blog, Federal Baseball, revealed:
#Nats' manager Davey Johnson said Stephen Strasburg experienced bicep tightness in 1st, didn't tell manager. Davey not concerned.
