Neftali Feliz Injury: Elbow Discomfort Puts Rangers Starter On Disabled List

Rangers starting pitcher Neftali Feliz has developed some elbow problems, so the team has put him on the disabled list and recalled Yoshinori Tateyama.

In 2012, at last, the Texas Rangers inserted Neftali Feliz into their starting rotation. Through eight starts, Feliz rewarded the team with a 3.16 ERA. However, in Feliz's most recent start, he walked five Houston Astros and threw just 50 of 101 pitches for strikes. That's pretty miserable, and the Rangers placed Feliz on the disabled list with elbow discomfort that might have contributed and probably did contribute to that performance. Jeff Wilson:

Right-hander Neftali Feliz, who battled command issues over 4 2/3 innings Friday night, will be placed on the 15-day disabled list today with an elbow injury.

He was in Arlington this morning for an MRI exam -- the results of which are pending -- but the Rangers decided to shut him down rather than give him the opportunity to work through the discomfort.

This could be nothing. In Chicago, reliever-turned-starter Chris Sale developed elbow discomfort, but examinations didn't turn up any damage and Sale went back to starting. Feliz could be just fine, or just about fine. But we'll see what the MRI has to say, and the Rangers placed Feliz on the DL before hearing about the MRI because there's no reason for them to take chances with Feliz's health.

Scott Feldman will take Feliz's place in the Rangers rotation for the time being. Feldman's made two spot starts, and also worked in low-leverage relief. This year he has a $6.5 million salary. Now you have learned that about Scott Feldman.
