The Anaheim Ducks signed Viktor Fasth, a 29-year-old Swedish goaltender, to his first NHL contract on Monday, according to the Orange County Register. The Ducks have had success with Scandinavian players before -- Teemu Selanne comes to mind -- and granted Fasth the one-way NHL deal he had been seeking for about a year.
Viktor Fasth Signs Contract With Anaheim Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks inked a backup for Jonas Hiller in Swedish netminder Viktor Fasth.

Fasth compiled a 2.34 goals against average and a .902 save percentage in six games between the pipes for Sweden at the 2012 IIHF World Championships, and was named the Swedish Elite League's top goaltender in each of the last two seasons, becoming the first goalie since the New York Rangers' Henrik Lundqvist to be so honored.
Fasth will likely serve as the backup to incumbent Ducks netminder Jonas Hiller. Dan Ellis is not expected to return to Anaheim for the 2012-13 season.
