Surprisingly there are only 44 cars scheduled to attempt to qualify for the race later today. That means only one team will be sent packing after qualifying is over. Interestingly though there will be at least 5 Cup regulars trying to qualify for the race too.

What this tells me is that means some of the teams that normally try to qualify for the Nationwide races won’t be showing up because they know that they will have to go against the heavier funded Cup drivers and their teams. Why try and qualify when you know you won’t make it? It is a waste of money. This is why Cup drivers need to be out of the Nationwide Series. This will allow the lower funded Nationwide teams to establish themselves and generate sponsors by being at every race, instead of the ones that don’t have Cup drivers in them.
With that being said this race should prove to be an interesting event, as Charlotte usually provides some pretty good competitive racing. My favorites to win are any of the Cup drivers, although I would expect Nationwide regulars Elliott Sadler and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. to have good runs with Austin Dillion and ‘the new face of NASCAR’, Danica Patrick, not too far behind.
