Bruce Irvin yesterday became the first player drafted in the first round to sign a contract. HE agreed to a four-year deal with the Seahawks which includes a team option to extend to a fifth year.

Seattle selected Irvin having traded back with the Eagles to the 15th pick, one pick before the Jets. Interestingly, NFL Network's Jason La Canfora tweeted last night that the Jets had a deal in place to move back with the Steelers, with the intention of drafting either Irvin or Quinton Coples at 25. But once Irvin was off the board, New York pulled out. La Canfora explains:

Jets were gonna take Irvin or Coples in the mid-20s, and Steelers would take DeCastro at 16. Once Seattle took Irvin at 15, Jets pulled out

Steelers still got their man, DeCastro, in their original spot. Will be interesting to see how careers of Irvin and Coples pan out.

Interesting then, that the Steelers were willing to move up to get David DeCastro. I was surprised to see him fall to them at 25, but didn't consider them players to move up for him. Would have been intriguing to see what exactly the deal would have been, and if Coples had fallen to 25 had the Jets traded back. My initial thought is that he might well have done.
