5 year NFL Draft Breakdown by Positions

Presswire

Every year we look at the NFL Draft and we try to submit our best mock drafts. It is so hard to judge, because we can never figure out what position will be the most intriguing in the draft. We usually never break down the draft by how many were selected from each position. Even though, this draft seemed like it was loaded in the Wide Receiver position and Cornerback position, what position was actually the one that stole the show from the others over the past five years?
We will go back and review every position from the drafts from 2008-2012. This will give you an idea of how many players from a position are usually taken throughout the draft, for the mock draft gurus who like to do an entire 7 round mock draft. These are just the selections and you might not be able to figure out how many will be taken but we can almost guarantee that next year around 4 centers will be taken in the 2013 draft. The reason is, history proves that there is usually around 4 that are taken.

Over a five year spread, you will be able to find out what position had the most draft picks. Grey means that draft had the most of that positions over the 5 years. Blue means that there is a tie.

In 2012, Guards were taken like wild fire in the draft and kickers became a neccessity again. I think next year you will see more Safeties, Linebackers, and Defensive Ends. The 2013 NFL Draft is good if you run a 3-4 defense you will get some great picks. It will be a very deep draft, because the 4-3 front is not a favorable this year get ready for a ton of trades again in the first round.
