Lower Ranked Tennis Players Do Not Make Much Money

Janko Tipsarevic, currently the No. 8 player in the world, wrote a short column for The Tennis Space in which he talked about the pay structure in tennis. The top players make, to say the least, healthy livings. The rest, however? Not so much.

↵↵So in golf, look at how many players made more than $1 million in prize money last year (94) compared to tennis (15). I feel that’s ridiculous. It is about the average salaries. If you are a player ranked about 100, if you stay about 80 or 90, I would say that you would not lose money, but you would not make any money either.

↵↵

Tipsarevic goes on to mention that tennis players earn prize money that adds up to about 11 to 13 percent of the overall profit at grand slams (as opposed to the 51 percent or so that NBA players make from NBA profits).
