Phil Savage to consider allowing juniors to participate in Senior Bowl

The Senior Bowl might not be for just seniors anymore.

The annual postseason collegiate all-star game, which pits the best college football seniors in the country against one another in a North-South showdown, is considering allowing juniors to participate, according to Rob Rang.

In order to participate in the Senior Bowl, a junior would have to declare early for the NFL Draft, graduate by December, have spent four seasons with his collegiate program and get the blessing of his collegiate coach.

Phil Savage took over his position as an Executive Director of the Senior Bowl on June 1st and is wasting no time in trying to implement some changes. This rule makes sense. With redshirt and eligibility issues in college football, the line is often blurred between which players are juniors and which are seniors. Any player that meets the above requirements should certainly qualify for the game, and the Senior Bowl would be wise to take advantage of any opportunity to improve the competition between these players.
