Drew Smyly Heads To DL With Blister

Tigers lefthander Drew Smyly left Sunday’s game in Cincinnati with what was called at the time an “ugly” blister. At the time, it was hoped that this wasn’t a big deal; Smyly said he had dealt with blister issues in college and in the minor leagues.

Turns out it is a fairly big deal:

Ryan Raburn had been sent to Triple-A because he was off to the worst start of his career offensively. His numbers at Triple-A Toledo: .194/.242/.290 in 33 plate appearances — don’t indicate that his hitting woes have been solved. Neither does this answer the question of who will take Smyly’s spot in the rotation.

The Tigers have been struggling, and this injury won’t help matters.
