Troy Tulowitzki Could Have Sports Hernia

The Colorado Rockies had hoped to have shortstop Troy Tulowitzki back in action by the weekend, or early next week at the latest.

Now, it looks as if “Tulo” might be out for several more weeks; he’s going to be examined by doctors to check out whether he has a sports hernia. Patrick Saunders:

Tulowitzki suffered a setback in the first game of a rehab assignment with Triple-A Colorado Springs on Wednesday while running the bases in the third inning. He was placed on the disabled list on May 31.
Sports hernias usually are diagnosed almost exclusively with very high-level male athletes. It is a diagnosis that often comes with athletes who have longstanding groin pain.
In layman’s terms, athletic pubalgia, commonly known as a “sports hernia,” is a tear of muscles of the lower abdomen.
If surgery is required, the athlete is usually sidelined from four to six weeks before they can begin their full activities again.Sounds painful just reading that. If Tulowitzki does require surgery, he’d likely be out until August. It’s been a lost season for him and for the Rockies.
