Blue Jays’ Drew Hutchison On DL With UCL Sprain

The Blue Jays have now lost three of their five rotation starters to injury.

The Toronto Blue Jays have been hanging in the AL East race, currently at .500 (32-32), and 6½ games behind the first-place Yankees, despite losing starters Brandon Morrow and Kyle Drabek to injury.

Add one more name to that list; Drew Hutchison left Friday night’s game with an injury:

Hutchison became the third Blue Jays starter in five days to leave with an injury when a sore right elbow forced him off the mound after just nine pitches.
“I’ve never seen this,” Blue Jays manager John Farrell said, adding that there likely will be more news on Hutchison’s condition Saturday.
“Until then, it’s sheer speculation on the length, the severity or anything like that,” Farrell said. Here’s more news that’s more than sheer speculation:

Coello made one relief appearance for the Blue Jays earlier this month; he’s been primarily a reliever at Las Vegas, but has also made three starts there. Toronto’s getting pretty desperate for starting pitching; they might begin looking at the trade market, because if they can’t get a competent replacement, or replacements, they could rapidly fall out of the race.
