2012 College World Series: Arkansas Beats Kent State, 8-1, In First Round Of CWS

With just eight teams left in the 2012 NCAA Division I College World Series, Arkansas took a huge step toward securing a national championship by thumping the underdog Kent State Golden Flashes 8-1. Kent State will now have to play for its life against the loser of the game between South Carolina and Florida.

Arkansas catcher Jake Wise swung the big stick for the Razorbacks Saturday, going 2-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Centerfielder Matt Vinson also hit a two-run double, which was more than enough behind stud pitcher D.J. Baxendale, who went 6.2 innings, giving up just three hits and one run. Brandon Moore came on in relief and dominated, allowing just one hit and no walks in 2.2 innings.

The Golden Flashses couldn’t get anything going on offense, managing their only run on a sixth-inning homer by shortstop Jimmy Rider.
