The clock struck midnight for Stony Brook, as the most unlikely team in the College World Series was swiftly eliminated in their first two games.
2012 College World Series: Florida State Eliminates Stony Brook 12-2
After losing 9-1 to UCLA on Friday, the Seawolves were trounced 12-2 by Florida State on Sunday.
The game turned in the third inning, when shortstop Cole Peragine’s throwing error opened up the floodgates for a six-run inning.
The Seminoles never looked back from there, with two more runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth.
Stony Brook, meanwhile, couldn’t get much going against Florida State starter Mike Compton, who gave up six hits and two earned runs in six innings.
Florida State, after losing a heart-breaking 4-3 12th inning game to Arizona, was on the verge of elimination as well, but their streaking offense rebounded, as they’ve now scored 12 runs for the third time in their last four games.
