A.J. Jenkins is signed but still buried on 49ers’ depth chart

The story goes that the 49ers' brass, holding the No. 30 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, wrote down A.J. Jenkins' name on their card the night before the picking commenced, knowing he would be available.

The pick came out of left field for a lot of people, but San Francisco made the selection without a second thought to the matter. Wednesday, San Francisco finished signing their 2012 rookie class, locking up Jenkins to a four year contract.

But the hype and dollar signs don't mean a thing when players strap on the pads, and Jenkins now faces the reality of an uphill battle to earn NFL playing time, a battle that Jenkins fell behind in early, showing up to minicamp way out of shape. Jenkins is currently battling for the right to be San Francisco's fourth or fifth receiver. At the moment, Randy Moss, Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham and Kyle Williams are all ahead of him on the depth chart, according to CSN.

Don't worry, though, Ted Ginn Jr. is keeping Jenkins company at the bottom of the depth chart. Hopefully Ginn Jr. provides Jenkins some example and motivation of what not to become.
