2012 College World Series: South Carolina Stays Alive With 2-0 Win

Needing a win to keep their College World Series title hopes alive, South Carolina beat Arkansas 2-0 Thursday night.

The Gamecocks are attempting to win their third straight national championship, but had to overcome an earlier loss to Arkansas in the College World Series to do so. Jordan Montgomery pitched eight strong innings for South Carolina, allowing just three hits while striking out six batters.

South Carolina scored both of their runs in the second inning with Tanner English and Chase Vergason knocking in the runs. Vergason and firstbaseman Christian Walker each finished with two hits for South Carolina. It was the Gamecocks’ second win of the day as they beat Kent State 4-1 Thursday morning.

Arkansas mustered just five base runners with only three hits. Randall Fant started the game for the Razorbacks and lasted an inning and a third, allowing both South Carolina runs.

The teams will play again Friday with a berth in the championship series on the line.
