The Texas Longhorns boast one of the nation's top defensive lines with a pair of elite ends. One of those dominant pass rushers, Alex Okafor, was arrested in May, along with teammates Kenny Vaccarro and Barrett Matthews for failure to obey, a misdemeanor charge which was a result of their refusal to leave a restaurant after being told to do so by police.
Alex Okafor will not be suspended for May arrest
Okafor and company will not be suspended at all for the incident after charges were dropped, according to ESPN. Mack Brown will discipline the players in some way, but it will be handled internally without suspensions. The players will not represent Texas at Big 12 Media Day in July as originally planned, but they are still eligible to be voted as team captains.
NFL Draft prospects, particularly those as highly touted as Okafor, need to stay on the field, so this is great news for him. Okafor is a potential top ten pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, and while this was a minor incident, it could be the wake up call he needs to stay focused this season.
