The Red Sox announced earlier that starter Clay Buchholz was scratched from Sunday's start. Apparently, there's something more serious going on. Scott Lauber:

In the midst of his best stretch of the season, Clay Buchholz has checked into the hospital with an undisclosed illness. The Red Sox have placed him on the disabled list, opening a roster spot for Aaron Cook, who will start today in the series finale against the Braves.

Buchholz hasn’t pitched since Tuesday night against the Marlins. His issues aren’t related to throwing.

Pete Abraham has more details regarding the “undisclosed illness”:

It must be reasonably serious for Buchholz to have checked into a hospital and also to miss a couple of starts while on the DL. Without wanting to sound alarmist, we await further developments.

UPDATE: Further developments have happened -- doesn’t sound great, either:

There’s no indication of what caused this; Buchholz will need some time, obviously, to get back to full strength.
