2012 College World Series, South Carolina Vs. Arizona Score: Wildcats Up 3-0 After Three

South Carolina has won the last two College World Series championships while Arizona is undefeated in Omaha.

So far, in Game 1 of their best-of-three championship series, recent momentum has won out. The Wildcats lead the Gamecocks 3-0 after three innings.

The first runs on the board came in the bottom of the first inning, when Arizona outfielder Robert Refsynder hit an opposite field two-run home run off of South Carolina starter Forrest Koumas. Koumas lasted only 2.1 innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs.

Freshman Evan Beal came out of the bullpen to stem the bleeding in the third, getting an inning-ending double play with runners on first and second and only one out.

Arizona pitcher Connor Wade, meanwhile, has been dominant. He’s allowed one hit in the first three innings, methodically working his way through the South Carolina lineup.

Wildcats star shortstop Alex Mejia has made his mark on the game early, digging the ball out of the dirt to turn a double play in the first and driving in Arizona’s third run with a one-out single.
