Matt Capps On DL WIth Shoulder Inflammation

It was inevitable after the Twins announced Sunday that “all signs” pointed to Matt Capps going on the disabled list, and now it’s official:

The Minnesota Twins have placed closer Matt Capps on the disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder.

The Twins will likely use a combination of left-hander Glen Perkins and right-hander Jared Burton to fill in for Capps while he is out. The Twins recalled lefty Tyler Robertson from Triple-A Rochester to fill the roster spot. He went 2-2 with a 3.77 ERA in 33 relief appearances for the Red Wings.

The Twins have had reasonable success in the setup role from Perkins and Burton, so they could mix-and-match depending on opposing team matchups. Capps had 14 saves and a 3.42 ERA in 27 games thus far for the Twins; there’s no indication of how long he might be out.
