Remember June 18? I do. Like it was yesterday. Because it was almost yesterday. It was eleven days ago, to be precise. That was when Aaron Hill hit for the cycle. That's really rare! And on Friday, June 29, Aaron Hill hit for the cycle again. That's really, really rare.
Aaron Hill Hits For Cycle ... Again
Aaron Hill hit for the cycle in the middle of June. He has another one just two weeks later, tying a major-league record.
Hill started his cycle with a ground-rule double in the first off Randy Wolf. He followed that with a single in the top of the third inning.
That was career hit #1000, yet somehow that wasn't nearly the most noteworthy hit for Hill on the night. Hill then hit a two-run home run in the top of the fourth, leaving just the triple, which he hit it off Livan Hernandez in the top of the sixth inning.
Hill is the second player in National League history to hit for two cycles in the same year, with the last one being Babe Herman, who did it for the Dodgers in 1931. Two other players hit for two cycles in the same season, Tip O'Neill and John Reilly, both of whom played in the American Association in the 1800s. That's how rare this is. Aaron Hill.
Hill is the quickest to two cycles in the same season, of course. With one more cycle -- like, for the rest of his career -- Hill would tie the career record. So check back next week for that.
