Larry Lumpkin, LB, Carson-Newman pro day results

Today, Larry Lumpkin the former Alabama A&M transfer who has not had the easiest journey put on a performance in front of a handful of NFL scouts at Alma Bryant High School in Irvington, Alabama. Lumpkin is a very strong, and quick line backer prospect who can play any one of the linebacker positions, but would probably be a best fit as a 3-4 middle lInebacker. He was used in tons of linebacker drills today, but according to one scout at the the pro day, Lumpkin looked very good in front of the NFL scouts on hand. His name is looming as a late round pick to a PFA, so could Lumpkin hear his name called? Check out his pro day results after the jump.

According to an unnamed scout at the workout held by Lumpkin and Alma Bryant High School, he had a pretty impressive work out. He started off checking in at 6’0 even and 241 pounds. He looked in good shape according the source. He performed drills in front of a handful of scouts that were present, but his agent Chris Martin of OTG Sports Management has confirmed that he has spoken to roughly 22 teams as of today. The scout had him timed in the forty yard dash at 4.65 while a scout next to him had him at 4.69. So anywhere between the 4.65-4.69 range for the middle linebacker. He did not participate in the vertical because the facility did not have one, where he was at. He did the bench press of 225 pounds where he was able to bench it 27 times. His broad jump was 9’10 and he performed all the line backer drills ran by NFL scouts.

Lumpkin is not a slouch by any means, he is a very athletic player, who the scout compared to a Joe Mays. He told me that Joe Mays compares well to Lumpkin as they are the same type of player. He wouldn't be surprised if a team was to use a pick on him. Teams that I believe will be ones willing to use a draft pick on him are Seattle, Denver, Oakland, Green Bay, New Orleans, and Saint Louis Rams. So tomorrow we might hear more than one name called, and it might not be Wesley from TCU but Larry Lumpkin of Carson-Newman.
