The Cleveland Browns took a leap of faith on Thursday, using a 2013 second round draft choice to select former Baylor wide receiver Josh Gordon in the second round of the NFL Supplemental Draft.
Josh Gordon failed three drug tests in college
Gordon hasn’t played a game since 2010, but in addition to the risk that comes with drafting such a raw prospect, the Browns are inheriting a player who failed three drug tests during his college career, according to Albert Breer.
Gordon admitted to a failed test when interviewed before the Supplemental Draft, but the other two failed tests were not brought up. Either way, Gordon was a college kid who made a few dumb mistakes. He admitted it and recognizes the risk the Browns are taking.
This kid is as close to unknown as a prospect can get. His physical skills are off the chart, but his lack of production raised some red flags. Add these two drug tests to the list of reasons why this was such a risky move by Cleveland.
