Jed Lowrie has been the leading hitter on the Houston Astros, which is only kind of damning with faint praise. He owns a 116 OPS+ and a team-leading 14 home runs. However, over the weekend, he was spiked in the ankle by a baserunner. Lowrie was placed on the disabled list with an ankle sprain, but the bigger problem is more significant than that. I’ll explain by letting someone else explain:

This is an unusual injury for Lowrie and the Astros, so where most timetables are based on long histories, this one might be a little more of a guess. An educated guess, but a guess nevertheless. Marwin Gonzalez has started at shortstop since Lowrie went down, and it’s probably enough to say that Marwin Gonzalez isn’t Jed Lowrie. That’s why Marwin Gonzalez was behind Jed Lowrie on the depth chart.
