Since the NFL took a little break, all we have been reading about is players getting arrested left and right, so I figured I would pick a draft pick from every team that I believe will have the biggest impact in 2012. These are guys that I am telling you to watch out for, because I believe they are going to come in right away and contribute to their prospective teams. I will start with the AFC East and go all the way through the NFC West. So find out what player I believe will be the shining star on your team. Let’s start with the AFC East, this morning and I will finish up the AFC this week. Next week I will work on the NFC, but first let’s get to them Buffalo Bills and the AFC East.
Impact draft picks: AFC East
Buffalo Bills – Cordy Glenn, OT, Georgia – Cordy Glenn is my selection, because he will be playing left tackle from week one and contributing. Buffalo’s GM Buddy Nix knows a thing or two about molding football players as he has been a scout for a very long time. Nix has noticed something in the 6’5, 345 pound Georgia guard/tackle prospect that he loves. Nix has said numerous times over and over again that Glenn is a tackle and has the mobility to play tackle. Since the first mini-camp in Buffalo, Glenn has manned the first team left tackle spot, and he will be hard to beat out. Buffalo was going to select Glenn with their first round pick, but thought they could get Glenn at 41 when they selected in the second round. They were lucky, but their game plan worked. Watch for this very massive, athletic big man to make a huge impact in the running game right away. He is very hard to get around, and could be the future left tackle in Buffalo for 10 years.
Miami Dolphins – Jonathan Martin, OT, Stanford – I know what you are thinking two straight tackles? Let me explain though, going into the draft, I was very hard on tackle prospects, but one guy who kept passing all my eye exams was Jonathan Martin. So when you look at Martin, you don’t only get a very smart, athletic player, but a LEADER. Jonathan Martin will be manning the right tackle position for Miami, and I love what they have done in Miami, and that is coming from a Bills fan. If Tannehill can pan out, this team could be great in a few years. With an already solid line, they fix the position that was a concern in right tackle with Martin who is a stud. They drafted Lamar Miller later in the draft, whose a steal. They really don’t need to rely on him yet, because they have Reggie Bush and Daniel Thomas. Watch out for the Dolphins to shock some people this year.
New York Jets – Demario Davis – OLB, Arkansas State – Demario is a very athletic, fast, hard hitting linebacker, who plays way bigger than his size. He looks very explosive and hits hard at the Point of Attack. I think we will see Demario Davis get on the field soon than later. He will start off on Special Teams probably and will be the leader. He has the speed to block kicks, and could be a very nice gunner on special teams. I think he will be starting OLB by the end of the year. I know people are probably wondering why I skipped Stephen Hill and Quentin Coples, but as many know, I am not a fan of Coples. As for Hill, I like him but I think Tebow-Mania will be in affect by week 4. If that is the case, Hill will be pointless as a deep threat. Just an opinion don’t kill me Jets fans, but I think the Jets are on the downward spiral in the AFC East.
New England Patriots – Chandler Jones – DE, Syracuse – The Orangemen is a very athletic player, who reminds me a lot of the player he will be replacing in New England in Mark Anderson. Anderson who is now in Buffalo was able to get around the corner with speed and ease. Jones is going to be a problem for teams in the AFC East this year, and could be a stud for years to come. Another intriguing prospect in this draft was Jake Bequette of Arkansas who also plays DE. I like both of the young DE prospects and believe that Coach B will find a way to get these young players to produce. The Patriots draft was pretty amazing, they did a great job, but will it be enough to stay on top of the AFC East? I don’t think so……
