Military Funding in NASCAR, Other Sports to Continue

After tons of debating and other political nonsense, NASCAR and sports like Major League Baseball and the NFL can breathe a sigh of relief.

A bill brought apon by Reps. Jack Kingston, (R-Ga) and Betty McCollum (D-Minn) that would have would have discontinued funding of military sponsorships in sports like NASCAR (and other sports) was voted down by a close margin (216-203).

The bill, if passed, would have been a huge blow to NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt Jr (as National Guard is his primary sponsor).

I wrote before that I was against any form of bill that discontinued military funding in NASCAR and other sports because it actually recruits alot of the 18-30 demographic that the military is looking for.

Any cuts in military funding would have a huge affect the sports economically because of the fact that the military spends over $20 millon dollars on sponsorships in sports like NASCAR, MLB, and the NFL.

Even though the bill would have affected f Dale Earnhardt Jr, I really don’t see much of an impact on him. Sure him, Hendrick Motorsports, and the sport in general would have lost tons of money, but being that he is the most popular driver, I don’t believe there would be an issue with sponsorships. I know Bob mentioned to me in the comments (in the US Army Sponsorship article) that sponsors are reluctant to put money into teams/drivers, but I bet they wouldn’t hesitate sponsoring Earnhardt Jr.

Alot of the politicians that were against the measure actually spoke about NASCAR in general and of Dale Earnhardt Jr and what he does for the military. So with that, I applaud those who voted against the bill.
