Ian Stewart Having Wrist Surgery, Out 6-10 Weeks

The Cubs took a chance on Ian Stewart this season, even though he had been bothered by a wrist issue all of last year; they acquired him in trade from the Colorado Rockies for Tyler Colvin.

Stewart struggled this year, hitting .201/.292/.335 with five home runs and 17 RBI. Two weeks ago, the Cubs placed him on the 15-day disabled list. Monday, there was this news:

Stewart is a busy tweeter — he sent about 40 of them Sunday night alone — but here’s where he told one of his Twitter correspondents that he’s probably done for the year:

So, Ian Stewart’s Cubs career likely ends, as he’s arb-eligible for 2013, and coming off two bad years, Cubs management is likely to non-tender him.
