These are the sorts of things that used to happen in the 1950s, when teams routinely made multiple-player deals in order to turn around sagging fortunes, or just make some news.

This one's for sagging fortunes, it would appear. The Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays made a 10-player deal Friday; Toronto's the team that's been seeking help for its decimated pitching staff. Here's the nuts-and-bolts:

The Jays receive J.A. Happ to bolster their rotation and Brandon Lyon and David Carpenter to shore up their bullpen. In exchange, Houston gets former Reds closer Francisco Cordero to help out in the pen, outfielder Ben Francisco, and the four minor leaguers to give them some organizational depth.

You’ll notice there are only nine names in that tweet; the 10th player in the deal is a player to be named later, who will go from Toronto to Houston.
