Cubs’ Matt Garza Pulled From Game With Injury

Matt Garza’s been on the trading block. Leaving Saturday’s game with a forearm injury might ding his stock.

Cubs starter Matt Garza has been the subject of intense trade talks for much of July, as the out-of-contention North Siders look for landing spots for a talented pitcher who could bring a return of players and prospects. Saturday night, Garza left a game early — but because of injury.

Garza had pitched three scoreless innings against the Cardinals before leaving. He struck out three and gave up two hits and two walks. He had thrown just 33 pitches, and was apparently suffering from a wrist injury or forearm tightness as he departed.

It should go without saying that an injury significantly impacts Garza’s trade value. He’s already not quite an ace; a rental of that caliber would need to be near full health to bring a really healthy return.

Edit: Good news!
