Nationwide Takes Center Stage: The STP 300 Preview

Getty Images

It’s Sunday Afternoon Racing Nationwide Style. The Nationwide Series heads to Chicagoland and they will only be joined by three Camping World Drivers; James Buescher, Brendan Gaughan, and Parker Kligerman, and two Sprint Cup Drivers; Kyle Busch and Stephen Leicht. Leicht will most likely be a Start and Park driver this week so that makes it Kyle Busch against the world this week.

There are 44 drivers entered, so one team will be heading home. Just a few notes this week:

  • #3- Austin Dillon needs a clean weekend after being fined two weeks in a row. Dillon is taking hit after hit in his attempt to be a Rookie Champion in the Nationwide Series.
  • #09- Kenny Wallace will be entered this week in a second RAB Racing Toyota. Wallace has no sponsor this week, but should be running the full event.
  • #18- Ryan Truex will make his first Chicagoland start this weekend, and has signed on to run the #22 in the Nationwide Series for a few races this year.
  • #22- Speaking of Penske, Parker Kligerman returns this week. Kligerman could be in the running for a full time ride in the Nationwide Series next year.
  • #33- Brendan Gaughan will run for Richard Childress this week. Gaughan is still looking for a full time ride in Nascar.
  • #99- Travis Pastrana returns this week. He’s been quiet so far, but has impressed. Pastrana is a quick learner, and could be just a few runs away from a win.

Join us live this Sunday for the STP 300 from Chicagoland! Tune in at 3pm Eastern on ESPN and join us for the open race thread that Bob will put up later today! Enjoy!
