Rookie Doug Martin Taking Majority of First Team Snaps

Stephen Holder of the Tampa Bay Times is reporting that Doug Martin looks set to be the primary running back for the Buccaneers this season. He did note that it was just the first practice of training camp, but Martin took the majority of the snaps over incumbent LeGarrette Blount.

The Bucs selected Martin with the 31st pick of the first round in April's draft, after narrowly missing out on Trent Richardson to the Cleveland Browns. It's clear that new head coach Greg Schiano wants to set a new tone of discipline and accountability in Tampa, something that Blount has lacked since his college days. It looks like the former undrafted free agent Blount will have to give way to the rookie Martin, who not only displays more talent, but also more discipline.

The Bucs spent big to add pro-bowl guard Carl Nicks to their roster this offseason to join alongside former pro-bowler Davin Joseph. With two guys like that inside, and Martin in the backfield, the Bucs running game looks set to be much improved this season. But my question is, do you think the rookie is ready for such a workhorse role in Tampa Bay's offense? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
