The NCAA hit Penn State hard with sanctions that will cripple the program. The school has already felt the blow, but the potential transfers of a handful of Nittany Lions could affect the program in the coming weeks.
Silas Redd transfer rumors swirling as the Penn State running back’s transcripts arrive at USC
Silas Redd is the most watched potential transfer. Redd, who is entering his junior season will be eligible for the 2013 NFL Draft. He rushed for over 1,200 yards and seven touchdowns this past season for Penn State.
USC is showing the most interest in Redd, and he reportedly met with Lane Kiffin Thursday via Joe Schadd. Though it’s been a battle to get information on Redd’s recruitment, the tailback’s transcripts arrived at USC, according to Inside USC. The site expects Redd to be at the school this weekend and announce his decision.
Redd could be an impact player despite late enrollment. The NCAA will allow him to transfer without sitting out the season, and with the offensive weapons Southern California already has, he could really boost his draft stock. USC has recruits coming through the pipeline, but with Redd likely only staying for one season, that shouldn’t create a huge issue. Plus, the Trojans could use a between-the-tackles runner like Redd.
We’ll keep you posted in the coming days as more information becomes available.
